Georgia Attacks vs Hedging Defense

In general, teams in Europe face more aggressive ballscreen defense and the 2025 EuroBasket gave us perfect examples of how to attack it and punish it. In this breakdown, we will go over “Georgia” action - a term I took from the Indiana Pacers staff and the many reads and sets you can use to attack teams that hedge in ballscreen defense.

Over the next few weeks, we will start looking at how NBA teams create scoring opportunities from their set plays, starting with plays for shooters. NBA Ghost the Switch Concept

NBA teams have always switched on defense to a degree, but over the past 10 seasons NBA defenses have gone to switching 1-5 more and more. It seems like switching everything all the time peaked with the D’Antoni Rockets who pushed one of the greatest teams all-time in the Warriors to the brink, but there have still been versions of switching that has had success against modern NBA offenses.

The 5-Out offense masterclass is starting session 3 of 4 sessions that started with our Intro and spacing concepts and transition and we will start tomorrow with how to actually install 5-out with practice footage from my teams as well as film breakdown of what I am seeing at the NBA & NCAA levels. The defending ghost & flat screens breakdown mentioned:

To combat teams switching more and more, NBA offense had to come up with actions and concepts to attack it - besides just isolating and looking for post ups. Since NBA teams have shifted almost completely to running 5-out systems, defenses had to switch and then the progression of switching vs attacking switching started. One of those concepts is using a ghost screen after finding the switch you want or if the teams switch their big men.

2025 NBA Finals Preview

The NBA Finals are set with the Thunder facing off against the Pacers and this matchup is going to be awesome. Both teams have strengths that match each other combined with both teams rebounding weaknesses with lots of questions to figure out who will try and exploit that when that strategy is not typically used for their systems.

Knicks vs Pacers Game 3

Watching the game live in the 2nd quarter, it felt over. The Knicks looked panicked and out of sorts and Indiana was rolling. After bouncing back slowly and cutting the lead down, there was nothing more impressive than KAT scoring 20 points in the 4th and controlling the offense to get the series to 2-1.

Thunder vs Timberwolves Game 2

The Thunder defense does it again. In the 3rd quarter, the Thunder used a similar run like game 1 to extend their lead and flip the game in their favor. Ant did a good job early, going quicker. The Timberwolves tried more zone, but ultimately, the Thunder have a defensive level I have not seen in a long time.

Knicks vs Pacers Game 1 Breakdown

They did it again. No words! This Pacers team is incredible, and this will be one of my top games of all time to go back and rewatch behind only the Cavs’ championship and LeBron’s game winner vs the Magic. We looked at the Pacers’ comebacks against the Cavs & Bucks, and this one was even more incredible.
