In this week’s breakdown, we are going to look at the 10 most common actions out of timeouts NBA teams run as well as the counters that teams are adding to them. While all of the teams in the NBA don’t run these actions, the majority of teams have in the past or a wrinkle off these sets.

Angle 45
The common term from NBA teams is “Slash” or cut the pop, since this set is designed to intentionally pop a big to the perimeter and have the other wing 45 cut to the basket.
If the first options of a layup or the pop are not open the goal is to get to the second side and flow into 2-man action. The Kings love to get to this action with Sabonis handling.

Delay Screen the Screener
With NBA teams moving to 5-Out offense as the primary way to attack on offense they are now using the same actions run before but just changing the spacing. When most teams look to go to screen the screener action they now flash a big to the middle of the floor and then swing the ball to set the backscreen/downscreen combination with much more space.
Some teams like the Nuggets & Mavericks will run this action and continue to the opposite side of the floor looking for the options all the way through.
