Phoenix Suns "Hawk" After Time Out Series

A breakdown of the main Hawk sets the Suns have been running after time outs lately.

The Phoenix Suns over the last 7 games have been running 9 different counters built off of one main action - Hawk into a double ballscreen. “Hawk” action is a term taken from Hubie Brown’s offense that he ran with his teams and was used when he coached the Atlanta Hawks. It is very similar to a UCLA cut, but the ball is dribbled to the wing and then a player cuts off a screen toward the basket set around the elbow.

We can see below one of the examples from the 1979 Atlanta Hawks playoff game vs the Wizards with them scoring off the initial Hawk screen.
