Yes, he is mediocre maybe terrible at the defensive end, and I think in the last clip what he did wrong is that he shouldn't have stood in the middle watching opponent guard drove downhill. If it's Joel, he may move towards under the basket more quickly and give needed help around the rim if Korkmaz gets past.
But I also notice difference and wonder if where the ball handler defender get past will impact how much help the center can provide. In this case, in the very first video in this post, Seth (BH defender) get beaten almost at FT line, leaving Embid more space to help. Whereas in the last video, Korkmaz was still in front of the BH (even though it looks like he was being pushed along the way) half way into the paint area, making Drummond actually didn't have chance to face the BH. He sure is bad at defence, but what a better defender at this situation can do?
I have three questions regarding the language as Iām not fluent in English.
What do those terms mean:
1. allowing the ball to get downhill
2. Embiid sags off
3. To tag the player
